Global Outreach

Individuals and congregations in the Diocese of Vermont have for many years had commitments to a variety of organizations involved with ministries beyond the borders of the United States. Vermonters have partnered with groups in Honduras, El Salvador, Haiti, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Africa, Southern Sudan and more.

In 2005, the Diocesan Convention adopted a resolution committing the Diocese to contribute 0.7% of its net disposable annual income to fund international development programs that address the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. That commitment was continued in each annual budget until that of 2012.

In 2006, the Diocesan Council created a Global Reconciliation Committee and charged it with the responsibility for recommending how the annual budgeted funds would be allocated, and the committee has developed a matching grants program. Beginning in 2012, funds for global outreach and the MDGs are available through the the Diocesan Outreach Fund (Initiative IV) of the McClure/Discovery 2000 Funds. These are administered by the Global Reconciliation Committee, in partnership with the Outreach and Social Justice Committee, which administers funds for domestic needs.
