In the spring of 2012, the Diocese of Vermont received a grant of $150,000 from Episcopal Relief and Development for long-term recovery work in communities affected by Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011.
The funds will be granted through local Episcopal churches to individuals, farms, businesses, and communities recovering from Tropical Storm Irene. This third grant brings the total received from Episcopal Relief and Development to $220,000, adding to funds dispensed by the Diocese and by local congregations in continuing relief and recovery efforts.
Ann Cooper, Diocesan Consultant on Irene Recovery Efforts. said, “Irene recovery is going to take years. We will use these funds to encourage congregations to find ways, using their own resources as well as grant funds, to assist directly in recovery efforts, building programs and relationships that will continue into the future and not be dependent on grant funding.”
