Church Members Encouraged to Submit Resolutions & Nominations to Diocesan Convention by Sept. 22 Deadline

Many church members know that Diocesan Convention is where delegates from each congregation vote on resolutions and nominations that affect our Diocese. Surprisingly fewer members realize that they have the power to propose resolutions and nominations for consideration. As we approach this year’s convention, an official invitation has been extended to all church members: Please submit your proposed resolutions and nominations by September 22, 2017.

As the name suggests, resolutions are formal expressions of the Diocese’s intent on matters brought forth for a vote. There are two types of resolutions. The first type requests an action by the Diocese, congregations, or individuals on behalf of the Diocese. For example, a resolution was made last year establishing minimum clergy compensation standards within our Diocese.

The second type of resolution, known as a courtesy resolution, is an honorary expression of gratitude to individuals, groups, or congregations on behalf of the Diocese. Historically, courtesy resolutions have been made thanking our guest speakers and meritorious partners.

The nominations process helps fill elected positions on diocesan committees and boards. Members may nominate themselves or others for openings matching their interests and qualifications.
